Meeting the Past in Ocean GroveMeet the Past on a guided Walking Tour of Ocean Grove's famous Historic District. During the 90 minute tour guests will be given a background history of Ocean Grove at the Historical Society Museum and then proceed to Auditorium Square where they will visit some of the National Landmarks famed throughout the world including the Great Auditorium, the unique Tent Colony and Beersheba Well, where Carrie Nation gave her famous Ocean Grove Temperance Lecture on August 20, 1904.

While visiting the Great Auditorium, your guide will give a brief history on the Holiness Movement, explain the unique construction of the building itself including the "natural" air conditioning and speak on some of the renowned religious and secular personalities who have appeared there. Guests will then have the opportunity to visit one of the summer tents in the town's Tent Colony. It was in tents like these where the original founders and settlers of Ocean Grove initially stayed. Visitors will then be given the rare opportunity to take a tour of the tent, graciously opened up by the tent's owner especially for the occasion.

Centennial CottageYour host will then proceed to the Auditorium Pavilion where the history of the Jerusalem Model and the open air meetings will be related. After this the group will visit Centennial Cottage where one of the gracious docents will take the company through the home where they will get a flavor of 19th century living in a sea side community. After this it is outside to the beautiful cottage garden  for light refreshments, .....  the perfect culmination to a Victorian afternoon.

Tours begin at the Historical Society Museum, 50 Pitman Avenue, on Wednesdays and Fridays at 1:00 PM and on Saturdays at 11:00 AM from June 25th through September 13th. There is a donation of $6.00 per person for the walking tours and reservations are recommended due to the popularity and limited party sizes. Group tours are available for your organization in the Autumn and Spring.

Tour participants should be ambulatory. It is a 9-10 block walk around the historic area adjacent to the Great Auditorium.
