SUMMER 2017

Posted on

Come join us this summer in Ocean Grove.   If you’re a first-time visitor, this is your opportunity to learn about the unique history of the area which was settled as a camp meeting in 1869. If you’re familiar with our history, peruse our busy calendar offering a variety of activities to enhance your knowledge and enjoyment of Ocean Grove. Love antiques? We’ll begin the season with our annual antiques auction on May 13. Please note the change of venue; the auction will be held at the Women’s Club at 57 Wickepecko Drive in Ocean Township. The preview starts at 9:00 AM and the auction begins at 11:00 AM. Art Kravetz of Kravetz Auctions will be our auctioneer. Some items being auctioned are Ocean Grove memorabilia, depression glass, several dolls, antique furniture, lamps and so much more!img_0747

Interested in expanding your knowledge of Ocean Grove? We have a number of tours you might want to investigate. Walking tours showing you the Great Auditorium, 1 or 2 tents, and Centennial Cottage begin June 21 and will be held on Wednesday and Fridays at 1:00 PM and Saturdays at 11:00 AM through September 2. Did you know women were integral to the growth of Ocean Grove? Would you like to meet some of the women who were influential here in the late 1800s and early 1900s? Please sign up for one of our Women’s Walking Tours held on 4 separate occasions this summer. Are you an architectural buff? We’re introducing a new walking tour this summer entitled “From Tents to Turrets: An Architectural History of Ocean Grove Homes”. All tours have a fee and both the Women’s Walking Tour and the architectural tour require pre-registration and a fee.

We’ll be presenting our 49th Annual House Tour on Friday, August 4. Once again, you will have the privilege of touring some of the outstanding homes here in Ocean Grove. The house tour begins at 10:30 AM and runs until 4:30 PM. Tickets are available at the museum beginning in June. Prices are $30 prior to August 4 and $35 the day of the tour.

We’re pleased to announce that due to popular demand, we will once again be presenting a Tent Tour on Tuesday, July 11. The number one question visitors have about Ocean Grove involves life in the 114 tents around the Great Auditorium. Do they have electricity? Are there bathrooms? Is there grass for flooring? If you’ve had questions about life in the tents, mark this date on your calendar as you’re in for a treat. Prices are $30 prior to July 11 and $35 the day of the tour.img_0443

Want to develop your crafting skills? We offer classes which will assist in that endeavor. Check our workshops page for our exciting classes- quilting, cardmaking, paper beads, Zentangles, paper lanterns, papercutting, friendship bracelets, and many more. Many of our participants are repeaters as they’ve gained so much from the talented instructors who present these classes each summer.img_0324

We’ve packed our calendar with a number of activities which should appeal to everyone. We look forward to seeing you at one or more events during our very brief season. Questions? Feel free to call our museum at 732-774-1869 or to register for workshops, tours, tickets, etc.
