Our archives include clothing and textiles from the late 19th Century and the early 20th Century. We have a large collection of glass negatives, stereographs and post cards depicting early Ocean Grove life as well as maps, photos and newspapers with a focus on the Period of Significance, 1869 to 1910. Our Camp Meeting documents and memorabilia is quite extensive. Ocean Grove ephemera– paper items (such as posters, broadsides, and tickets– that were originally meant to be discarded after use but have since become collectibles), as well as glassware and china.
Select donations are accepted. It is recommended that a photograph of the item is sent to us beforehand for review. We have limited space in our archival area, but do welcome talking with you about items you may wish to donate.
Historical Newspapers: 1875-2004
Local newspapers from 1875-2004 are available for research on this website. From 1875 until 1899, the local newspaper was known as The Ocean Grove Record. It remained the Ocean Grove Times from 1899-2004. It ceased publication in 2004. Other local publications digitized here include the Asbury Park Journal/Press from 1879-1903. Our Research Library
Our library contains a wide variety of books, ranging from the history of the Methodist Movement, Victorian architecture, history of New Jersey and Monmouth County, home restoration and repair, historic preservation, and more. The Historical Society also has a large collection of old maps and pictures.
Each May, the Historical Society participates in Old Monmouth Weekend, which celebrates the historical significance of Monmouth County. The tour includes nearly 50 local historical sites. Visit tourism.visitmonmouth.com
