To our visitors, members, and volunteers:
The Historical Society of Ocean Grove is concerned about your well-being. We hope you, your family, and friends are taking care of yourselves during these challenging and uncertain times. As part of the fabric of our Ocean Grove community, the HSOG wants to help us come together and support one another.
To this end, we need your help. In turn, together we can help others. The HSOG needs your donation so that together we can ensure the HSOG will meet its 2020 operating budget. As part of that, we want to pay it forward, so we will donate 10% from this appeal to Fulfill, the Monmouth and Ocean counties food bank, whose “mission is to alleviate hunger and build food security.” We can’t think of a better way to help our wider community. Donate
Unfortunately, the HSOG is closed until further notice because of the COVID-19 pandemic. With your safety in mind, we’ve canceled all events including our general meetings, walking tours, and 52nd Annual House Tour.
The HSOG faces a serious revenue shortfall from these canceled events which brought in 49% of last year’s budget. We operate on a tight annual budget from the above revenue sources and your donations. Prior to the pandemic, we purchased with a mortgage the adjoining space behind the Museum, which doubles our footprint. It will provide space for more in-depth exhibitions and research, and space for revenue-generating lectures and education programs. We ask that you please donate what you can to help make up expected losses. Donate
Like everyone, we steadfastly hope this crisis ends quickly. In crises, cultural institutions like the HSOG offer solace, education, and diversion. We can still offer a bit of this to you. Please visit the HSOG YouTube channel. There you can watch many inspiring and humorous videos on Ocean Grove history, and ones that rekindle memories.
Thank you for considering our appeal and making a donation now. Donate

The HSOG started a Campaign to support the expansion of the Museum and we could use your help!
The HSOG owns the front half of the first floor and basement at 50 Pitman Avenue in Ocean Grove. In March 2020, with the full support of the HSOG Executive Board, we agreed to purchase the rear half of the first floor and basement facing Olin Street. This will double the space available to the Museum from 2,000 to 4,000 square feet. The Museum will run completely through from Pitman Avenue to Olin Street.
The long-term goals for the expansion are fourfold:
- Provide spaces for education programs and events.
- Increase exhibition space and allow the Museum to exhibit more of its collection in more expansive ways.
- Provide visitors with a more welcoming and comfortable experience.
- Better connect the Museum to the Ocean Grove community.
The long-term plan includes an examination and potential reconfiguration of the first floor and basement spaces for maximum flexibility and utility in the use of space and technology. We would also like to restore the facades of the front and rear first floors.
Initially, the plan is to maintain the front half of the Museum as it is currently configured and flexibly finish the rear half as quickly as possible so the new spaces can be immediately used. The rear first floor will provide space for more in-depth exhibitions and research, and revenue-generating spaces from lectures, and education programs. The rear basement will provide much-needed space for the storage of museums, exhibition, and event-related materials.
