Whether you are completely new to painting or an experienced artist, you will find this class interesting and informative, as one never stops learning! JULY 29 FRIDAY 10:30-12:30 – INTRODUCTION TO ZENTANGLES® – Mindy Shapiro, CZT – In this family-friendly class, no talent or experience is needed to learn 4 to 6 basic Zentangle® inspired designs. This art form is relaxing, creative, meditative, and fun! Each structured pattern will be broken down into small steps and what results are beautiful, creative, and unique images. Tangles are created on small paper tiles using a special black drawing pen. You will leave class with 1 or 2 completed tiles and new skills to continue tangling on your own! AUGUST 1 MONDAY 10:30-2:30 – NO SEW CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS – Carol Grant – Make a lovely ornament for your tree without sewing! By folding and pinning, a beautiful star motif will be formed on your ornament. Bring a thimble if you have one and snacks/lunch. $37
AUGUST 4 THURSDAY 10:30-2:30 – DIMENSIONAL FABRIC FLOWERS – Carol Grant – Learn to manipulate fabric with a needle and thread to make these beautiful fabric flowers that can adorn a quilt, handbag, or clothing. You can even add a pin and make jewelry out of them! Bring small scissors for snipping threads and snacks/lunch. $37
AUGUST 5 FRIDAY 10:30-12:30 – ZENTANGLES®: BEYOND THE BASICS – Mindy Shapiro, CZT – Create Zentangle® designs on large oyster shells in this family-friendly class! Building on the patterns learned in the Introduction to Zentangles® class, we will continue to learn new patterns and introduce color. You will leave class with a designed seashell and new skills to continue tangling on your own! (To participate, you must have attended Introduction to Zentangles® in Ocean Grove or elsewhere.) $26
AUGUST 8 MONDAY 10:30-2:30 – ART OF HAND APPLIQUE – Carol Grant – The word “applique” means “to apply.” Learn to sew fabric shapes to a background, in a technique you can use to make quilts, or adorn to clothing. Bring snacks/lunch. $37
AUGUST 15 MONDAY 10:30-1:00 – PAPER QUILLING – Laura McHugh – First known as “paper filigree,” quilling is the art of rolling thin strips of paper, bending and molding these curls into shapes, then putting the shapes together to form designs. Learn the different shapes that can be made curling the paper then add these shapes to create a one-of-a-kind paper quilled painting. You will be surprised at what you can create! $20
AUGUST 17 WEDNESDAY 10:30-1:00 – ABSTRACT SELFIES – Laura McHugh – Create abstract self portraits using watercolor and acrylic paints, markers, and pens. You will be surprised that drawing with your opposite hand will enable you to be more creative with this fun abstract style! You will leave with a framed portrait ready to display. $25
AUGUST 19 FRIDAY 10:30-1:00 – MACRAMÉ – Laura McHugh – Macramé, or the art of creative knotting, may look difficult, but it’s about as easy as tying your shoes and as inexpensive as a ball of twine! All you need to join the growing ranks of macramé addicts are your fingers, some string, and the mastery of a few simple knots. $25
AUGUST 22 MONDAY 10:30-1:00 – EARRINGS – Laura McHugh – Learn the art of creating a variety of earrings and the proper use of basic jewelry tools to make that special pair. If you have any special beads that you would like to use, bring them with you! $30
AUGUST 23 TUESDAY 10:30-1:00 – BASIC SCRAPBOOKING – Pat Hawkins – Complete a 2-page layout and receive handouts and reference notes covering the basics of scrapbooking—proper materials, journaling, design and color basics, etc. All cardstock, embellishments, and other materials are included. It is not necessary to bring photos, as you can add them to your layouts later. Bring your own paper cutter, small sharp scissors, and photo-safe (acid free) scrapbook adhesive. You can purchase these items at your local craft store or visit www.pathawkins.ctmh.com as a reference and to buy items online. Recommended items are Fiskars Deluxe Cutter, Micro-tip Scissors, and one of the following, Bonding Memories Glue, EZ Dots Adhesive, or Duck Adhesive. $25 ADULTS ONLY
AUGUST 23 TUESDAY 2:00-4:30 – INTERMEDIATE SCRAPBOOKING – Pat Hawkins – This course focuses on techniques with scrapbooking. You’ll be surprised to see what you can do with items you already have on hand! Complete a 2-page layout, receive handouts and reference notes, while making your own technique samples to take home for reference. All cardstock, embellishments, and other necessary materials are included. It is not necessary to bring photos, as you can add them to your layouts later. Bring a paper cutter, small sharp scissors, and photo-safe (acid-free) scrapbook adhesive. Refer to the Basic Scrapbooking class for details on purchasing these items. (To participate, it is not necessary to attend the morning class, but you need basic knowledge of scrapbooking and terminology.) $25 ADULTS ONLY
